Avoid Being Overtaxed On Your Home

” To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time to every purpose, under heaven” -The Byrds

Are you paying taxes on your property value? If so, consider this:

We’ve all grown up believing the more our property value increases the better things are… but there is a time and place for everything including when to consider decreasing your property value. If you live in the United States you probably have a county assessor website you can visit to see what the county/city has determined your property value is worth. Now, are you paying property taxes on this value?

For those of us paying taxes on our property we should consider:

  • How much longer are we planning to own our home?
  • What do we think our home is worth compared to the assessor’s evaluation?

If you’re like me you’re probably planning to be in your current home another 5+ years and would like to save money by avoiding as much taxation as possible. Reach out to your county/city assessor and ask what the process is to have your property reappraised for value and property taxes. You might be able to save quite a bit of cheddar!
